JumpStart skills development programmes are designed to unlock opportunities for unemployed youth in the retail and
manufacturing value chain. These programmes are run in partnership with our awesome employer partners,
including Mr Price Group businesses and the SPAR Group.

Our Footprint
JumpStart provides training on demand, to youth across South Africa.

JumpStart training takes place in major South African cities, including Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. The training feeds youth into the retail value chain. The Professional Manufacturing Programme and Production Programme are geared for graduates and feed into the supply chain. Programmes for matriculants feed into the retail sector and include: Retail Frontline Programme, Retail Sales Programme, Warehousing Basics Programme, Retails Essentials Programme and Professional Retail Programme. Training is area specific and is switched on and off according to demand from our industry partners.

JumpStart your retail dream

The JumpStart Retail Frontline Programme (RFP) is designed to unlock opportunities for matriculated youth to entry level positions in retail. This two-week skills development course is composed of an online life skills course, in-person training and interviews, and one week of hands-on work experience in a retail environment. This work readiness programme gives youth the opportunity to become more specialised and more employable.

Is the Retail Sales Programme for you?

If you’re friendly, well-spoken and passionate about retail, the JumpStart Retail Sales Programme could a match for you. This is a highly energetic training experience for customer-facing positions. Suitable candidates will be selected via a survey and telephone screening. Training incorporates life skills, sales theory and role play, as well as in-store work experience. Training is held in Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and
Pretoria between March and October 2023.

Explore your retail niche

The JumpStart Retail Essentials Programme is a six-month blended learning course that combines theory and work experience for more specialised retail roles. Interns gain introductory knowledge and skills to function in a retail organisation.

The JumpStart Warehousing Basics Programme shapes candidates for entry-level positions in warehousing. This two-week course is composed of an online life skills course, in-person training and interviews, and one week of hands-on work experience in a warehouse environment.

The JumpStart Production Programme is a six-month course in critical production and manufacturing skills, and workplace ethics. This course produces footwear manufacturers or multi-skilled sewing machinists for industries such as footwear, clothing and home textiles.

What is the programme?

Designed by retailers, the Professional Retail Programme builds merchants of the future. A nine-month graduate internship, it equips graduates for junior positions in buying, planning and store management. Graduates learn the key roles and responsibilities of the retail value chain; and how these add value to business and consumers. The internship is delivered through a cloud-based learning platform and a combination of classroom, self-study and group project work, along with six months of hands-on work experience in selected retail environments.

The Professional Manufacturing Programme is a nine-month practical and theoretical course designed by retailers to develop well-rounded merchants and traders. The internship is delivered through a cloud-based learning platform and a combination of classroom, self-study and group project work, along with hands-on work experience in a local manufacturing firm.

The JumpStart programme does not offer jobs but equips youth to be workplace ready. We are not a recruitment agency and do not guarantee employment; we do not charge application or other fees and do not advertise jobs for Mr Price Group. Please be aware of scams claiming to originate from Mr Price Foundation asking for payment.

No, Mr Price Foundation does not charge fees to apply for any of its programmes or to undertake any tests. Please do not fall victim to scams requesting fees of any nature.

All JumpStart retail programmes begin with a life skills course. It includes the following modules: personal development, self-esteem, emotional development, healing of the past, vision and goal setting, communication, conflict resolution, work ethic and time management, basic HR principles, personal health and job prep.

For the online life skills course, candidates must have access to data and a computer or smartphone.
