“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”  – Unknown

MRP Foundation set out to share this lesson in compassion by spreading some love at Kearsney Primary School, a low-income school in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, on the global day that focuses on good, Random Act of Kindness Day. First created in Colorado in 1995, the international holiday encourages simple acts of kindness.

First to be showered with kindness were the Grade 1 – 3 learners who were surprised by a magical table-top puppet show during class. Master puppeteer and well-known Durban theatre personality, Peter Court, was the man who bought the colourful puppet creations to life.

As MRP Foundation’s Creative Arts Implementation Partner, Peter oversees the creative arts curriculum in the five MRP Foundation supported Schools in KwaDukuza as part of the holistic education programme.

Next up was Kearney’s Primary School’s Grade 4 – 6 learners who were treated to an energising dance workshop. Filled with contemporary and traditional movements the workshop fostered a fun experience of co-operation and free sharing of ideas.

Then it was the teacher’s turn to experience their sprinkling of kindness. Each educator was gifted with flowers and chocolate by the learners, a small gesture of appreciation for all their hard work that often goes unnoticed.

Visibly touched by the learners’ thoughtful act, Mr. Sipho Ncengwa said, “The day was fantastic. From the poem to the surprise presents, it was well appreciated by all the educators. The kids were very happy and they felt very special. Thank you to the MRP Foundation for the wonderful experience.”

“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” -Scott Adams
