SOUTH AFRICAN para-surfing champion David Williams has accepted the JumpStart Challenge! As a double-amputee, walking is difficult and painful for David. Yet he’s not shying away from tackling a 3km walk to help break the cycle of poverty and inequality in South Africa.
“Three kilometres is not an easy feat for me. With a disability, walking is literally my weakest point. It’s painful. If I’m willing to push myself for a 3km walk that is very difficult for me, why can’t other people who are fully abled, also take on the Challenge?”
David’s determination and persistence have seen him excel at a sport many thought was impossible for him. He has gone on to become the South African para-surfing champion in the kneel division and represented the sport in the international arena.
He believes we can all make a difference by supporting the JumpStart Challenge.
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a tent on a hot night with one mosquito! I hope that I can make a small difference and motivate others to join the Challenge. If I can do it, what’s your excuse?”
Join more local heroes in the JumpStart Challenge at Holla Trails, Sugar Rush Park in Ballito on Sunday, 13 March, or virtually from 12-20 March.
With a variety of distances and disciplines to choose from, there should be something for everyone. Funds raised will support JumpStart, a skills development programme equipping unemployed youth with skills for the world of retail. Sign up today and race for change!
