MRP associate Craig Jones will be riding his sixth Ride for MRP Foundation from Johannesburg to Durban on November 29 – 30.
It takes plenty of passion and dedication to cycle the Ride for MRP Foundation, something MRP Associate Craig Jones, understands well since he is the only cyclist in this year’s peloton to have completed all five rides since 2010.
Taking place from November 29 – 30 the 640 km ride from Johannesburg to Durban is one of the country’s toughest cycle challenges, pushing ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.
The annual Ride for the MRP Foundation raises funds and awareness for the MRP Foundation and despite the audacious challenge year on year a courageous group of cyclists return to undertake the strenuous ride. Spectators can spot first and second-time riders by their white jerseys, cyclists who have completed the challenge three to four times will wear pink jerseys, fifth-time riders will don green jerseys and sixth-time riders will proudly wear a yellow jersey.
The only person who has earned the privilege of wearing the illustrious yellow jersey at this year’s epic event will be Craig Jones, a Financial Manager at MRP, who has been an integral part of the ride since it was first staged in 2010.
The experienced cyclist said:
“I always keep forgetting how hard it is! Because it’s such a big challenge that pushes boundaries and the fact that we are riding for an amazing cause for the MRP Foundation it keeps me coming back for more!
Plenty of team spirit is needed to complete this local cycling challenge, something Jones is well versed in after completing the ride an incredible five times. “The group of riders motivates me. There’s always such a great vibe in the group and it’s extra sweet at the end knowing you’ve accomplished it without getting any assistance by holding onto a vehicle or jumping into one.”
Over R500,000 has been raised through the event to date and this year’s Ride for MRP Foundation is hoping to raise an incredible R300,000. Proceeds from the event will be channeled into the non-profit that has a vision for South Africa where young people become inspired, healthy and engaged citizens through sustainable programmes that focus on youth education and skills development.
If anyone is unable to participate in the ride and yet would still like to make a donation to the MRP Foundation they can make a deposit directly to the MRP Foundation with their name and “RideMRPF” as a reference for their bank transfer. Section 18A certificates will be supplied for all donations. All donation queries to be sent to Cathy Kinnear [email protected]
