JumpStart Pre-Production graduate Wendy Vukeka returns from London inspired by MRP Foundation Ambassador & Mentor, Henry Holland
Jumpstart Pre-Production graduate Wendy Vukeka experienced a creative and colourful side of fashion on her recent dream trip to London where she was mentored by leading British fashion designer Henry Holland at his inspiring studio.
Last year Wendy was the top student in a ten-month intensive practical and theoretical training course, the JumpStart Manufacturing Pre-Production course, which provides life skills, experiential training and critical skills development in the footwear and clothing manufacturing sectors.
The twenty-four-year-old Durbanite spent her week at the House of Holland design studio shadowing different departments including the sales, pre-production, patterns and digital team. Wendy was also assigned a special fashion assignment, to create a unique garment that merged one of House of Holland’s iconic designs and her own personality. Her Xhosa inspired dress, assembled in just a mere five days, was a hit with House of Holland and Wendy is thrilled to proudly wear her outfit on South Africa’s Heritage Day on September 24.
“I will never forget when Henry walked down the studio steps and I saw him for the first time, that was phenomenal!” said a delighted Wendy, who works as a digital pattern maker at one of MRP’s strategic suppliers.
“This week in London taught me to be more creative and be proud of being unique and it certainly was a learning journey. Henry and his team were so creative that I couldn’t help but leave inspired.”
Over the past three years, Henry Holland has raised over one million rand for the MRP Foundation through his collaborations with MRP. Building on the success of this, MRP and the MRP Foundation were thrilled to welcome Henry as the first international ambassador for the MRP Foundation’s Ambassador & Mentorship Programme in 2014.
“The mrp foundation is about changing people’s lives and it’s humbling to be part of the JumpStart programme which changes people’s lives daily,” said Henry Holland.
“To be a part of Wendy’s learning journey, offer our knowledge and inspire her has been an amazing.”
