The Ride for MRP Foundation calls on cyclists to ride for a good cause

The seventh annual Ride for the MRP Foundation is a gruelling 660 km ride from Johannesburg to Durban spanned over two days (November 27 – 28) that raises funds and awareness for the MRP Foundation and is clearly not for the feint hearted.

As arguably one of South Africa’s toughest two-day road rides, the Ride for MRP Foundation is the ultimate test of character. Forty committed cyclists courageous enough to take on the arduous challenge must be willing to dedicate countless hours of training to prepare their body, mind and heart to work together to complete the daunting ride.

Cyclists participating in the epic annual challenge have raised well over R500,000 since the inaugural ride in 2010 and this year’s fundraising goal hopes to raise a further R300,000 for the MRP Foundation.

The MRP Foundation, a Non-Profit organisation focused on youth development, has impacted thousands of young South Africans through their education and skills development programmes, giving them the opportunity to reach their full potential and ultimately break the cycle of poverty.

Kelvin du Sart, the Chairman of the Westville Cycle Club who is responsible for organising one of the country’s most challenging bicycle rides, is anticipating another exciting event noting that “the peleton can expect quality service and support in terms of logistics and a well oiled back-up support team to ensure their safety on the road between Johannesburg and Durban.”

Nigel Payne, Chairman of Mr Price Group, will be cycling the Ride for MRP Foundation for the second time and is just as committed to cause saying:

“This event is more than just one of South Africa’s toughest two-day cycling events, it’s a ride with a purpose that ultimately positively impacts the lives of thousands of others. This is a very challenging ride but nothing like the challenges faced daily by many South Africans trying to progress in life with inadequate education and limited skills.”

With only a few spots left open for one of the country’s most testing bicycle rides, interested cyclists are advised to enter immediately before the limited number of entries is reached. In addition to the R3,500 entry fee each rider is required to raise an additional R7,000 for the MRP Foundation above their ride fee.

All interested cyclists who wish to enter the 2016 Ride for MRP Foundation must contact Cathy Kinnear at the MRP Foundation on [email protected]  or Kelvin du Sart on [email protected]
