Unlocking tomorrow’s potential: The MRP Foundation Schools Incentives Awards, which honours the commitment and excellent performance of educators and management from five KwaDukuza Primary schools, opened with an inspiring dramatic piece performed by learners from Aldinville Senior Primary School.

The fourth annual MRP Foundation Schools Incentives Awards held at the Salt Rock Country Club on September 9 highlighted the excellent performance of educators and management from five KwaDukuza Primary schools and their unwavering commitment to quality education.

The awards ceremony gathered together the MRP Foundation team, principals and teachers from Aldinville Senior Primary School, Kearsney Primary School, Nyakana Combined Primary School, Zilungisele Primary School and St Christophers Primary School, and implementation partners Jet Education, WESSA and Sportstec to celebrate each educational ‘victories’, no matter how big or small. Prizes included beautiful school bags made from recycled materials, retail vouchers and a voucher to buy more seedlings for a school’s garden nursery.

It’s not often that educators are rewarded for their efforts, especially when teaching in challenging environments, but the awards presented an opportunity to acknowledge and reward the educators’ commitment, performance and consistent involvement in the MRP Foundation Schools programme that’s helped usher in school improvements where learners reap the benefits.

Since 2011 the holistic MRP Foundation Schools programme has aimed to sustainably transform schools, reshape their educational environment and ultimately improve learner performance through educator and learner development.

Sihle Makhanya, Deputy Chief Educational School Inspector from Ilembe District, attended the awards ceremony and delivered a vote of support and appreciation on behalf of the Department of Basic Education.

“Thank you to the MRP Foundation for supporting the schools and investing in education at the five schools in Ilembe District. Education is a right and is critical because it gives people the ability to access opportunities.  So when you invest in the provision of education you are giving an opportunity to that learner. And thank you to the principals who have been committed to the programme.”

MRP Foundation Manager, Karen Wells reaffirmed the purpose and the vision of the Foundation adding:

“It’s been an incredible journey to witness the passionate commitment of educators, school management and implementation partners which has resulted in the potential of learners being unlocked.  It really has been a day to celebrate.”
