Here’s how we’ve taken action against poverty over the past twelve years.

“It is in your hands to make our world a better one for all” — Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela’s powerful actions left a legacy of doing good. He believed in the possibility of a better future through us all taking action against poverty. As we celebrate 100 years since Madiba’s birth on July 18, we remind ourselves of why we need to make every day a Mandela Day — to break the cycle of poverty and inequality.
Since MRP Foundation was established in 2005, we have been working tirelessly through our education and skills development programmes to empower young South Africans. During our journey, we have achieved many milestones that we are proud of.
In Education, we developed an easy-to-use Physical Education manual for schools and educators, which was later printed for all nine provinces and included in the National Curriculum (2009). Called YoungHeroes, this programme used sport as a vehicle to bring about healthy lifestyles. It had a systemic influence on the Physical Education Curriculum and is a key part of our MRP Foundation Schools Programme today.
In Skills Development, we developed a work-readiness programme called Jump Start. It started from with just one programme in 2007 and has expanded to include seven programmes in Retail and Supply Chain that progress from entry level all the way to management. Since 2007 over 28,010 unemployed youth have been upskilled through the our work readiness programme with 12,714 job placements in Retail and Supply Chain.

2 – We focus on 2 key focus areas to break the cycle of poverty and inequality — Education and Skills Development.
6 – There are currently 6 programmes under Jump Start.
12 – MRP Foundation has been operating as an NGO for the past 12 years
28 – The number of schools part of the MRP Foundation Schools Programme.
100 – The Professional Retail Programme pilot achieved 100% employment rate in 2017.
