The Power Fashion team brought smiles to the faces of learners at EduRise-supported schools in Hammarsdale, in KwaZulu-Natal, as their way of honouring South Africa’s iconic leader during Mandela Month.

Learners who lost their stationery during the devastating floods earlier this year were excited to receive colourful bags filled with stationery, including crayons, scissors, rulers, pencils, erasers and pens, to assist them in getting back to normal classroom activities.

Staff at the Power Fashion head office pulled together and hosted a sample sale, and the funds raised were used to provide 300 stationery bags for learners from various impacted EduRise schools, including Ncinci Primary School and Mophela Primary School in Hammarsdale.

“We became aware that there were some kids in need, who had lost all their stationery in the floods. It was such an amazing experience coming here to the schools, handing out the stationery bags and seeing all the happy smiles on the kids’ faces,” said Maryke Koch, head of HR at Power Fashion.

Principal at Ncinci Primary School, Ms PF Xulu was exceptionally grateful and thanked the Power Fashion team. “This means a lot to our learners. We serve a community of learners that are disadvantaged. To them this is very big. They are going to have stationery for the whole year. We are grateful and thankful. May God bless you abundantly.”

The schools are part of EduRise, Mr Price Foundation’s holistic schools programme which has been implemented in and supports 98 primary schools in South Africa. Impacting almost 65 000 learners daily, EduRise has empowered over 1 800 educators this past year, with valuable professional skills and content knowledge through workshops, tutorials and mentorships.
